Last summer, Gaelchultúr was pleased to announce that over a thousand primary school teachers undertook an online EPV course in Irish on ranganna.com, the company’s e-learning website. Gaelchultúr has been offering these courses since 2009 and this was the second year in a row that in excess of one thousand teachers had completed one or more of the 12 courses available on ranganna.com.
Since all of Gaelchultúr’s EPV courses are provided online, teachers can undertake them anywhere they like – as long as they have an internet connection and access to a smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer. So whether you’re on the train using your smartphone, on the couch with your iPad or at your desk on your PC, you can work away on your EPV course.
“There's been a great demand for Gaelchultúr's EPV courses from the beginning,” says Michelle Seoighe, the company’s Sales and Marketing Manager, “but demand has greatly increased in recent years. We’re extremely pleased that such a large proportion of the country's primary school teachers are spending time with the language. The emphasis in the education system on spoken Irish and on communication seems to be growing every year, and teachers obviously understand that our courses aim to facilitate this vital shift. The influence of the EPV courses can be seen in the classroom and we get positive feedback regarding that each year.”
All of Gaelchultúr’s EPV courses are recognised by the Department of Education and Skills, and one reason teachers choose to take more than one course with Gaelchultúr is because they can earn up to five EPV days. Department criteria for online courses stipulate that participants may complete one online course for the awarding of three EPV days, two online courses for four EPV days and three online courses for five EPV days. In order to earn these EPV days this year, the course(s) must be completed between 2 July 2018 and 24 August 2018.
