Newsletter #40: September 2017

Thinking of returning to Irish? Seize the opportunity this autumn!

At this time of the year, with students returning to school, memories of our own school days often coming flooding back to us. If you'd like to reconnect with Irish, drop into a free event called A Taste of Irish which Gaelchultúr will be running this month to get you started on your language journey.

At this time of the year, with children in school uniforms milling around and back-to-school offers in every supermarket, it's hard not to think about your own school days. Irish can seem like an old love – a fond memory never far from your thoughts, or a lost opportunity, the one that got away.

Well, pine no more for the language – get back into it instead!

To get you started, why not attend a free event Gaelchultúr will be running twice this month. This event, called Blaiseadh den Ghaeilge/A Taste of Irish, will take place in Gaelchultúr's centre at 11 Clare Street, Dublin 2, on Saturday, 16 September and again on Friday, 22 September, as part of Culture Night. Drop into us between 12.00pm and 1.00pm on the 16th or between 7.00pm and 8.00pm on the 22nd and we’ll assess your standard of Irish. You’ll then have an opportunity to attend a 20-minute Irish class, which will give you an idea of the teaching approach we use. You’ll also be able to register for the autumn course, should you wish, but there will be no obligation on you to do so.

If you're unable to attend the above event, you can call into Gaelchultúr between 6.00pm and 7.00pm on 19, 20, or 21 September for an assessment. This is free of charge, will only take about 15 minutes and there’s no need to book in advance.

Gaelchultúr has been offering Irish language courses for twelve years now and has developed excellent resources during that time. Our classes are learner-centred and the emphasis is on the spoken language and on interaction between participants. So join us for Blaiseadh den Ghaeilge/A Taste of Irish and see for yourself just how enjoyable, beneficial and fun our classes are.

Gaelchultúr's autumn course will commence the week beginning 25 September, and classes will be available at up to seven different levels, in Dublin, Cork and in Carlow. The ten-week course costs €200.

Here are the various levels at which classes will be available:

• Bunrang 1 (Beginners)
• Bunrang 2 (Elementary)
• Meánrang 1 (Lower Intermediate)
• Meánrang 2 (Upper Intermediate)
• Ardrang 1 (Advanced)
• Ardrang 2 (Advanced 2)
• Cruinneas sa Ghaeilge 1 (Accuracy in Irish)

So whether you’re a complete beginner, fairly fluent but a little rusty or just looking to brush up your grammar, Gaelchultúr has a course for you.
